Five Consolation for Manchester United as Bale and Perisic's deal crash

Manchester United look to have missed out on Gareth Bale as Jose Mourinho admitted defeat in his bid to bring the Real Madrid man to Old Trafford after the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday night mirror reports

The Red Devils' attempts to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic also look to have come up short, with the Croatian seemingly being priced out of a move after a £39million bid was rejected by the Italian giants.

They have had a largely successful summer in the transfer market after bringing in Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof for a combined fee of £146m.

Mourinho still wants to bring in a winger before the window closes later this month though, as he sees it as the final piece of the jigsaw to build a squad capable of mounting a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

With it now likely that the winger will have to be someone other than Bale or Perisic, here are five possible alternatives United could go for.

1. Ousmane Dembele

The France international enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Bundesliga last year, scoring six goals and making twelve assists after signing from Rennes.

2. Lucas Moura

Amidst Neymar's move Moira might be forced to exit as the heat gets brassier. A little spending could land him for Mou's structuring.

3. Thomas Lemar

Another player linked with a move to Arsenal, but the Gunners are stalling over Monaco's £50 million asking price which is a stumbling block United won't fall over.

4. Riyad Mahrez

Mahrez has been linked with a move to Serie A in recent weeks, with Roma and Inter Milan said to be leading the chase for the wantaway Leicester star.

5. Yannick Carrasco

United would need to splash the cash to land the 23-year-old though, with his Atletico buyout clause an eye watering £86 million.
